We are a part of two different sessions this year.

SRA-Talks: Letting the Data Lead the Way: Pathways of Discover with Altmetrics

Monday, October 19th,1 12:15, Expo Hall

This is a TED-style talk where Mike Buschman, Co-Founder of Plum Analytics, will talk about how using modern metrics of scholarly research can answer the questions and uncover the stories about research output that researchers need to succeed. With the proliferation of new data all the time, questions about research are changing. Mike will talk about questions that bubble up from this new data and how those who support research can begin to harness the power of such data without getting overwhelmed.

W204: Modern Impact Metrics Can Help Increase Pre-award Grants Possibilities

Wednesday, October 21st, 11:15-12:30

Researchers, especially early-career researchers, need every advantage they can get to win grants. Traditionally, research impact, importance and prestige have been determined by assessing the research article, in what publication it appeared and how many citations it garnered. The biggest problem with this method is that it often takes at least two years to get research published and often 3-5 more years for a bulk of citations. There are modern metrics you can use to help tell the stories about the reach and impact of research sooner, specifically, within the first 12 months of creation. In this session, Mike Buschman, Co-Founder of Plum Analytics, will share what some institutions are doing with these metrics to help their researchers secure grant funding. For example, using modern metrics to help tell their story for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Biosketch portion of the grant application.

We will also have a booth in the exhibit hall. Please stop by.
