The Dublin Business School (DBS), Ireland’s largest independent third level college, is the first institution in Ireland to take advantage of the modern metrics provided by PlumX to help tell the stories of their faculty’s research output and promote its value to current and prospective students.

DBS Head librarian, Marie O’Neill, described the reason for the selection, “PlumX provides DBS with the opportunity to publicly showcase the research output and impact of the College. Demonstrating the research activity of faculty is an integral aspect of progamme accreditation and validation, and PlumX offers transparency to quality assurance agencies in terms of showcasing – on open access – the research output and impact of an institution.”

PlumX is an integral part of the institutional repository initiative at DBS. They plan to integrate PlumX into the IR so that the impact of the research output in the repository can be measured. “The software provides a wider range of research impact metrics than is available from institutional repositories alone, such as references to scholarly work in social media,” O’Neill said.

DBS also plans to use PlumX to assist in marketing and accreditation for the College. O’Neill stated, “PlumX has huge marketing value for the institution. It will also be critical in forging collaborative relationships and in the context of institutional review and programme review by Quality and Qualifications Ireland.”
