Research Altmetrics to Enhance Communication and Discovery in China’s Tech and Science Communities

We are now working with the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC) to build the ISTIC-EBSCO Joint Laboratory for Big Data Research and Discovery promoting the academic research of big data in China.

More than 300 databases and the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) will be included in the joint laboratory. PlumX will measure, monitor and quantify the digital footprint of interest in research in the databases.

A primary goal of this project is for PlumX to demonstrate immediate and long-term use of, and interest in, research. Plum Analytics is the third supplier of research metrics to be approved for ISTIC after Web of Science and Scopus.

This is the second PlumX collaboration announcement involving Chinese research in the past month, following the  e-journals content collection announcement with Airiti on August 1st.

This announcement shows our continuing regional relevance as well as our global reach.

ISTIC/EBSCO Signing Ceremony

ISTIC and EBSCO have a long-standing relationship and created the joint laboratory to enhance academic communication and technology cooperation. Together, we will develop the basic concepts and technology practices of big data research and discovery.

ISTIC is seeking to support national science and technology funding and speed the process of measuring academic research interest. It aims to translate research into commercial success faster, among other benefits.

When operational, the joint laboratory will be able to:

• Analyze user-specific inquiries from different disciplines, geographical differences, searching behaviors and more.
• Enhance the user discovery service experience and improve the assessment
  process of big data research through the presentation of altmetrics data.
• Use PlumX altmetrics for discovering interest and patterns surrounding research
